he Department of Basic Sciences offers both theoretical and practical courses. Marine biology studies are conducted by analyzing samples collected from marine environments in the faculty's laboratory, while freshwater biology research is carried out in lakes and rivers. The department engages in original research in various fields, including fishery biology, limnology, plankton studies, aquatic invertebrates, histology, aquatic plants, water quality, and water pollution. Additionally, services related to water quality, pollution, and environmental issues are provided for existing and planned aquaculture enterprises in marine, lake, and river environments.

Special emphasis is placed on teamwork, and projects supported by national and international organizations are actively carried out. The department houses the Water Quality Laboratory, the Biology, Ecology, and Limnology Laboratory, and the General Research Laboratory.

The department offers undergraduate and postgraduate education with a faculty consisting of 3 professors, 2 associate professors, 2 assistant professors, 2 research assistants with PhDs, and 1 lecturer.
